BEST CROSSBOW For Deer Hunting

With a nice long deer hunting season, hunting deer with a bow or a crossbow is fun. Unfortunately some states don’t allow hunting with a crossbow unless you’re disabled, but if you can master hunting deer with a compound bow, you’re set with a 3 month season in most cases. For some, hunting deer with a bow is much like golfing; Your season starts off pretty rough since you’re rusty from the winter, then as the season goes on your chances of actually hitting a deer just seem to get better.

If you really want to take your deer hunt to the next level, check out a Barnett bow. With over 40 years of experience in building high quality crossbows, a Barnett bow can really help you to perfect your skills at hunting deer. With a number of different models to choose from, Barnett bows have what you need for that next deer hunt. You know how frustrating it can be to have a deer in the sight, only to miss because your bow wasn’t the best. That won’t happen with a Barnett bow! They’re most powerful bow, the Predator AVI compound crossbow, has a 175 pound draw weight and can shoot 375 feet per second. Now that’s fast!

The Anti-Vibration Isolator or “AVI” as it’s called is Barnett’s attempt at reducing the amount of vibration and noise that a shot creates. Using a special material that’s able absorb the vibration and reduce noise, you get a nice clean shot which will increase your chances of hitting that deer. Even if you have a little hunter in the family, Barnett bows makes a few different youth bows as well, so you can train the next generation of deer hunters, so by the time they’re ready to hunt for real, they’re already a skilled hunter.

CHEAP CROSSBOWS For Sale

Whether you’re young or you’re a little older, preparing for your first hunt is so exciting. Grand thoughts of taking down a deer or a bear quickly fill your dreams those few nights leading up to the hunt and you just can’t wait.

Getting started is certainly fun, but there’s also a lot of preparation that goes into preparing for your first hunt. Before you ever head out into the wilderness for your first hunt, there’s plenty that you need to know. So much that you really should have a mentor that you an learn from. Whether it’s a friend, neighbor, father, grand-father or uncle, ask them lots of questions and learn as much as you can before you ever decide to pick up a bow and go hunting yourself. They can advise you on all kinds of tips like how to use your bow properly, they can help you perfect your shots and they can give you tips on how to find wildlife.

Don’t forget that of course you need a great bow if you’re going to be successful at deer hunting. A Horton Bow for example is a great choice for a novice hunter. With a number of different models and options to choose from, they have what you need.

It’s too bad that so many first-time hunters spend so much time on learning all they can about hunting various types of animals and then they opt for a cheap bow that just won’t do what you need it to do. Sure, they all shoot, but a Horton bow shoots well and will increase your chances of being successful your first time out. Don’t forget that you need to choose the right arrows for the prey as well and any other handy accessories that will make your hunt easier.

Dan Loves to write about Horton Crossbow and share adventures in crossbow hunting.

The MINI CROSSBOW – A Powerful Compact Crossbow!

Crossbows are stock-mounted bows that shoot bolts and primarily used for hunting and target shooting. If you are interested in either field, the first thing you should do is to determine the most suitable type of crossbow for your needs and abilities.

Recurve Crossbow

These have longer draw length compared to ordinary cross bows, which provide reduced hand shock and better acceleration. Using recurved crossbows, however, also produce greater strain on the bow structure itself.

Recurve crossbows are often used by advanced archers, shooters, and hunters. They are also noisy to use and thus require the accompanying use of a bowstring silencer.

Compound Crossbow

There are several variants to a compound crossbow, but all of them basically work the same way. The string of a compound crossbow is attached to a number of pulleys, and which one or several of it are connected by cables to the opposite limb. Upon preparing to take a shot, the string will naturally draw back, which makes the pulleys turn and the cables to move accordingly. The limbs will then bend, thus storing energy for the shot.

These crossbows are characterized by limbs that are stiffer than usual and require greater pressure from the users because of the design. Their structure, however, allows compound crossbows to become more energy efficient than other types of crossbows.

Pistol Crossbows

Pistol crossbows are named so because of their relatively compact size. There are 80lb and 150lb pistol crossbows and other variants.

Rifle Crossbows

These are crossbows primarily designed to provide better aim, just like how rifles perform compared to other guns. Rifle crossbows are one of the most advanced models you can use. A 150lb rifle crossbow, for instance, can come with adjustable sights, foot pull, and heavy-duty fiber construction. It can hit your target as far as 250 feet away. Of course, such power also requires you to possess equivalent strength to launch your shot and cock your bow effectively.

Repeating Crossbows

If you want a shortcut to the entire process of shooting then you should make use of a repeating crossbow. With this type, you only have to make a single movement and everything, from bow stringing, projectile launching, and shooting, will be completed. This way, you’ll be able to shoot at a faster rate than usual.

Bullet Crossbows

This type of crossbow is also aptly named because it shoots bullet-looking projectiles made of stone, lead, or clay. Some bullet crossbows come with a string slot and barrel while others have a double string design.

As crossbows vary according to the amount of energy required from the user, size, acceleration system, and degree of automation, make sure that your choice satisfy your needs in all aspects.

CROSSBOW HUNTING

Crossbow hunting is a wonderful sport practiced by many hunters all around the world. It combines the accuracy of shooting a rifle with the need to get in close to the quarry in order to make a clean kill. This forces sportsmen to hone their skills in tracking and stalking to a peak that is difficult to match in any other activity. The following are a few useful tips on crossbow hunting that may come in handy.

Set the draw weight of the bow to the maximum amount that you can pull back using both hands. This will provide enough force on the arrows fired from the crossbow to get a through and through shot in most cases. If the arrow is properly placed, the animal will never even know what hit it until it dies. This is far more humane than leaving an arrow sticking in a wounded animal to wiggle around as the animal moves until it succumbs to its wound.

Crossbows are normally sighted in much the same manner as a rifle. There is one very important exception. The effective range of a crossbow is generally limited to less than 60 yards. Because arrows do not move at as many feet per second as bullets, they tend to drop off during their flight. This means that it is necessary to set a minimum of two, preferably three, different sights.

Most hunters prefer to use three different colored pins or fiber optics as front sights. These are normally set at 20, 40, and 60 yards. Then, when a game animal is in range, the hunter must estimate the distance and position the kill zone of the animal on or between pins as necessary to assure a clean kill. Deer, bear, and other large game can become very dangerous if only wounded.

It is important to keep the rail of the crossbow properly lubricated with graphite powder to avoid excessive wear on the string. The string of a crossbow runs right on top of the rail and slides along it. If the rail is kept lubricated, one string can last for several years. If it not, the string can be broken with any shot.

Check the string periodically for wear and replace as needed. Having a string break in the woods can cause serious injury to the hunter. It will almost definitely damage the limbs of the bow, rendering it useless until repaired or replaced. In addition, there is a certain embarrassment factor to consider when aiming at a large deer and having the string break, leaving you looking at the animal with it looking at you as if to say, “Ha, now what are you gonna do?”

Store your arrows properly when not in use. A quiver that lets you snap the arrows into place with the tips buried in foam can protect them from getting bent by the force of gravity as they sit when not in use. A bent arrow fired from a crossbow is a very dangerous thing because its flight is unpredictable. It is possible to have dead aim on an animal and miss completely, with the chance of hitting another hunter that is just out of the line of sight as the arrow curves in its flight.

It is to be hoped that these few crossbow hunting tips will help to make your experience in the fields and woods more enjoyable. The main thing is to take proper care of your equipment to avoid injury and to improve your chances of bagging a deer, bear, turkey, or whatever you hunt. In addition, it is very important to practice the entire year round in order to remain proficient with the weapon when the time comes to hunt with it.

USED CROSSBOWS

Crossbows are available at the market in many different styles, some of which are match crossbow, target crossbow, sporting crossbow and traditional replicated crossbows. Accessories consist of cases, silencers, quivers, scopes and crossbow bolts. Match crossbows are spanned with a lever and quite heavy. Such crossbows are used mainly in shooting competitions, for distances ranging between 10 and 30m. Target crossbows draw a weight of around 95lb and are mainly used at archery clubs. Almost all the hunting stores and gun shops have crossbows in their stock, making it easy for the interested people to possess one.

Crossbow as a weapon has been used in military warfare for more than 2000 years. These crossbows were invented by the Chinese but spread across the world in no time. Theoretically speaking, crossbows are considered to be the link between the bow and the firearm. It gives the user more power and accuracy compared to a traditional bow that is being used in battle field and for hunting. Crossbows have been used extensively in warfare in North Africa, Asia and Europe, however, today – crossbows are mainly used for hunting and target practicing.

Crossbows have a short lath or bow which is fixed to a tiller. The tips of the bows are connected by means of a cord. The bow consists of a pair of leaf springs and its main purpose is to store energy. When the string is drawn back to the latch, and the latch released, the string moves forward to push the arrow or bolt, which is guided by a bolt rest. Toy crossbows are available with safety sucker darts. Wildcat crossbows have devices permanently attached to the crossbow and require a tension of 16 lbs to function. The crossbow consists of one crank and handle and have anti reverse gear facility. A recurve crossbow set is usually used by people who want to learn about archery. The set consists of a 15 lb target recurve bow, finger tab, quiver, multi colored target face and two target arrows. This type of crossbow has tips curving away from the archer.

High quality 80 lb crossbows are available with self locking features. These crossbows are made of high tech fiberglass. The crossbows come with an auto safety feature and have a range of 100m. Rifle crossbows with a 150 pound draw, foot pull, adjustable sights and durable fiber construction are available. Using such a crossbow you can fire to a distance of 250 ft per second and with an accuracy of 65 yards. This is a heavy duty and a powerful crossbow and is used for target practicing and hunting. This type of rifle crossbow requires immense strength to string and to cock the bow. Usually two people are required to string such a bow. The smallest crossbows available are the pistol crossbows.

Crossbow accessories like extra strings with plastic end caps and string wax is available. When wax is applied on the string it enhances the life of the string. It is advisable to apply wax after every 10 to 12 shots to enhance the life of the string.
